Painting Custom Mike Tyson Sneakers

working blog no.1

24.11.22

Welcome to my first working blog, I’ll be sharing day to day life as a custom sneaker/clothing artist...

Today I was finishing off this Mike Tyson pair that was requested on my website as a 1 of 1 fan art piece for someone’s partner.

I started off the shoes with a mock up that I make on procreate on a basic Air Force 1 template I have already downloaded. I mainly just use the standard brushes etc on the app to get different effects and did a lot of research on this pair across Pinterest and Google.

My main inspiration for this pair was vintage boxing posters back when Muhammad Ali was in his prime. This was include flashy titles to advertise the ‘big fight’. I also was inspired by the basics of boxing like the sketches of the boxing gloves I found. This connected the background to the portrait in a way with a faded grey colouring so they don’t stand out as much as they should

This was the start of the first portrait where I was really struggling on the eyes and the face in general, whenever I come across this I guess it just a lot of patience along with trial and error to get the right look eventually.

My favourite part of painting portraits is always when they’re finished lol, the process can be so daunting and frustrating like I’m putting blood sweat and tears into each portrait but when it’s done, the results always make me happy. I think that’s why the quote I used on the pair is so relevant to my work.

“Discipline is doing what you hate to do, but doing it like you love it”

Here’s is the finished piece

Thank you for reading, I’ll be back with another blog soon on my next piece of work
